By
Dr K Rajaram – Vocal;
Violin – Vidwan Shankar Rajan; and Mridangam – Vidwan Bangalore R. Ramanath

Concert Theme: Thiruppugazh Chanda Talam
While Chapu talas of count 3, 5, 7 andd 9 are known and widely prevalent, perhaps none of us have heard the rare talas with count 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.  These talas do not seem to have individual names but as a group have been termed as a subset of Thriruppugazh Chanda Talam. Guruji Sri A S Raghavan had identified the authentic chanda talam for Thiruppugazh compositions and has formatted them into appropriate raga and tala. Dr K Rajaram through this concert will demonstrate the beauty, grandeur adaptability and suitability of these rare talas at various portions of Carnatic classical performance like Sub-main, Main, RTP, Thillana, etc.

LEC DEM on “Understanding Appreciating and Experiencing Laya”
“Shruthi Mata Laya Pitha” – is the basic tenet of Carnatic music, rather any form of music, but somehow, most people have difficulty in understanding Laya, although Laya is what, defines music, binds music, and makes music appealing. Vidwan Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma is arguably the most versatile musician of present times with an unchallenged expertise on Laya.  He is known to traverse through the breadth of its simplicity and depths of its complexity with equal ease. He along with his student and accomplished khanjira artist G Guruprasanna will help the audience gain a better understanding, profounder appreciation, and attain the divine experience of Laya.
