Vegan Bengaluru Potluck @ Cubbon Park - 26th Jan 2013

Vegan Bengaluru will be meeting at 2:30pm on 26 Jan 2013 at Rani Park (lawn across the road from the Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium, behind the Victoria statue, near the MG Road/Kasturba Road junction) and have the picnic spread there. Read all the details below carefully:

1. *All* are welcome! :) You don’t have to be vegan to attend the potluck. Even if you’re just curious about a vegan lifestyle or interested to learn about veganism you can join us.

2. You *MUST* bring a 100% vegan dish to share. Everyone brings something so it won’t be fair if you walk in empty handed.

3. It would be nice if you bring a vegan dish that is prepared by yourself; however, if you are unable to cook then feel free to carry food which you have purchased.

4. If you’ve purchased the food, then make sure there’s an ingredients list on the package so we can be assured that it is vegan. Particularly if you’re a first time attendee who is not vegan, please don’t expect us to take your word for it that the food you’ve purchased is completely vegan.

5. If you’re unsure about what to bring then the best bet is fresh fruits or fruit juices. Everyone appreciates fruits. :)

6. Please bring plates, glasses, bowls, forks, spoons and serving spoons for yourself. Everyone brings their own.

7. We usually have about 15-20 people attending. Bring enough food for 5-6 people to eat well and that'll be enough.

8. Come, relax, and enjoy the food and conversation!

If you need further help and would like a contact number to reach us at, please send a private message to Arun Rangasamy and request his number.

Vegan Bangalore potlucks/meetings happen on the last Saturday of every month.

The organization is led by Dr Nagaraja Rao Havaldar, a noted Hindustani classical vocalist from Bangalore and has already garnered accolades from across the globe. The organization has set itself, high standards in promotion of music, north-indian classical music in particular, publication of art related literature and digital archival of audio-visuals and has conducted many events and workshops to achieve these main objectives.

Bangalore Gayana Samaja

Since its inception in 1905, the Bangalore Gayana Samaja has continuously worked towards promotion of indian classical music. Aided by noted artists, the organization has grown enormously over the last few decades and today it can be considered as one of the major landmarks in Bangalore. BGS hosts numerous music concerts throughout the year and accomplished musicians are honoured every year on the occasion of annual music conference. It is also currently working on  publishing a compendium of compositions of various composers of Indian classical music.

Bharata Ratna Pt Bhimsen Joshi

Unmatched in his renditions, panditji regaled his audience for close to 7 decades. He is probably the only artist of our times who impressed upon a large variety of audience, connoisseurs and amateurs alike. His stress on purity of the swaras, power of taans and the emotion of the song itself moved many to tears and audience listened to him in awe. His strict adherence to the tradition of Kiraana thought amidst his own improvisations serve as a reference for countless music practitioners today. Gifted with a powerful and free flowing voice he sang raagas & compositions with respect they deserved and excelled in every form of music he choose; pure classical or thumris or bhajans in Kannada, Hindi and Marathi. Panditji is a phenomenon and his music will continue to inspire listeners for generations to come.
